Embroidery on linen
In Scar (Sleepscape), Coldrey translates a drawing first made during a period of chronic pain into an embroidered work on linen. The piece originates from Radiant Pain (2022), one of her sketches documenting her experience of endometriosis. Years later, Coldrey has now re-stitched the design onto a linen pillowcase - an object she slept on for a year while focusing on recovery. The faint stains at its centre are traces of that time, embedding the act of rest within the fabric itself.
Through this self-referential piece, which she akin to rereading a diary entry in the future, she is able to map to herself the slow but tactile process of healing. The pillow becomes a vessel of memory, carrying the imprint of the body as evidence of resilience and change.
