Into the Rabbit Hole explores the private landscapes we retreat to when the external world becomes overwhelming. Combining quilts, textile works and surreal digital imagery, the exhibition transforms familiar domestic materials into portals between the body, memory and imagination.

Developed through Coldrey’s lived experience of endometriosis and chronic pain, the series moves beyond the clinical language often used to describe illness. Instead, it gives form to the strange, vivid and sometimes disorienting inner worlds that emerge when pain alters a person’s relationship to their body and surroundings.

Sentimental fabrics such as pillows, cushions and pyjamas appear throughout the work as anchors of safety and calm. These soft materials hold traces of comfort, intimacy and care, even as they are reconfigured into unstable, dreamlike forms.

Alongside these textile works, alien digital landscapes reflect the isolation and coldness Coldrey experienced in medical spaces during her diagnosis. Developed with artificial intelligence and digital painting, these images map unfamiliar worlds back onto the body, using texture, colour and traces of touch to make invisible experiences visible.
