Invisible Pain

2021

Photographic series

In the Invisible Pain series, fabrics manipulated by robots are framed by physical poses to investigate how chronic pain is experienced and understood within society. The image is a self-portrait following a surgical endometriosis diagnosis, where the keyword ‘stabbing’ was identified in workshops with other patients. Considering the role of technology in the future, the clinical staging imagines patients’ identities in a future where pain can be seen and believed outside the body.

This project was generously supported by The Australian French Association for Innovation and Research.
